Finance
A monthly figure that fits your life.
Car finance in plain English. What HP and PCP mean, what changes your monthly, and what to expect before you sign.
The figure
What your monthly depends on
- The car
- Its price, age and what lenders will support.
- Your deposit
- More down, lower monthly, or keep it and spread the cost.
- The term
- Up to 84 months. Longer term, lower monthly, more total interest.
- Part-exchange
- Your current car can act as some or all of the deposit.
Your figures, monthly payment, rate and total cost, are set out in full by the lender, for you to review before you decide.
HP or PCP
Hire Purchase
HP finance
Pay a deposit, then fixed monthlies. When the last payment is made, the car is yours.
Personal Contract Purchase
PCP finance
Lower monthlies with an optional final payment, pay it and keep the car, hand it back, or trade in. On cars that qualify.
- Terms up to 84 months
- Stretch the term to bring your monthly down. A longer term does mean more interest overall, we’ll help you find the balance.
- FCA regulated
- We’re a credit broker, not a lender. Your protections apply.
The difference
Neither is better. The honest answer depends on the car, the deposit, the term and you, which is why every car page quotes both on the real car, so you can flick between them before you decide.
Words you will see
- Deposit
- What you pay at the start. More deposit, lower monthly. Your part-exchange can be some or all of it.
- Term
- How many months you pay for. Longer term, lower monthly, more interest overall.
- Optional final payment
- On PCP, the lump sum at the end if you want to keep the car. Sometimes called the balloon.
- APR
- The yearly cost of borrowing, with fees included, so you can compare one deal with another.
- Representative APR
- The rate at least half of accepted customers get. Yours depends on your circumstances.
- Total amount payable
- Everything you will pay over the whole agreement, deposit and fees included.
- Subject to status
- The lender checks your credit history and what you can afford before saying yes.
How it works
Three steps
Pick a car from our stock and see its live monthly.
Build your deal on the car page. Move the deposit and the term and watch the figure change.
Apply from the car page. The team check it and come back with the lender’s confirmed figures.
A broker, not a lender.
We are a credit broker, not a lender. We work with a limited panel of lenders and may introduce you to one of them to finance your car. We may receive a commission from the lender.
Finance is subject to status. Affordability, terms and conditions apply.

Build your deal on any car.
Most cars in stock show a live monthly, worked out by our finance partner. Open a car, move the deposit and the term, and see the figure change.
Clear Car Group is a credit broker, not a lender. Finance is subject to status and affordability. Rates depend on your circumstances and the vehicle, and are confirmed by the lender before you decide.
